You will still save a lot of money in the long run.

The alternative to compatible inkjet cartridges is to have your existing cartridges refilled, and this is something you will also need to consider. If you live in an urban area with a reasonable population, you will be able to find a print shop which will be able to open your cartridges and top them up with ink. This practice is also not welcomed by the printer manufacturers, for obvious reasons, but it is likely to become even more common in the future. Many environmental groups and even government departments are encouraging the recycling and reuse of printer cartridges.

Finding compatible inkjet cartridges to buy is not difficult, but unless you get lucky first time round there is likely to be some trial and error involved in finding the best fit for your machine. Make sure you also test the number of prints which you get from each cartridge, as you don’t want to find yourself buying cartridges which are cheap because they have only been filled with a smaller quantity of ink.
